iNaturalist Ambassador

I am an iNaturalist ambassador, meaning I am a volunteer who can facilitate events that involve connecting the public with iNaturalist, an open science platform that hosts a community who share photo and audio recordings of wildlife to build a collaborative map of the world’s biodiversity.

As an ambassador for the platform, I organize, run, or support events that teach the public about iNaturalist, and I want to work with you!

Here are some of the events I can run for you or your organization:

  • Bioblitz: a group of people can collectively visit a specific area at the same time, and document everything they can find on iNaturalist. Bioblitzes help build snapshots of local biodiversity, and are also a great way for people to build familiarity with the local ecosystem.
  • Educator Training: teachers, guest educators, and other professionals may be called upon by their organization to use iNaturalist with their students. Whether the goal is to bring people outdoors or use iNaturalist’s taxonomic and biogeographic functions indoors, I can provide experienced support to educators looking to understand best practices and unlock the full potential of iNaturalist as a tool.
  • Identification Party: a group can get together in a comfortable indoor setting and explore biodiversity by learning about individual species, larger families, and taxonomy as a whole by browsing and identifying species on iNaturalist.
  • Planning Session: iNaturalist can be a useful tool to help you plan research, birding, ecotourism, and other activities where you are engaged with the natural world. The web platform is intricate, and I can show you how to use it to answer questions what biodiversity looks like in different places and in different groups of life.
  • Nature Photography: taking photos of nature can be a great joy, but also at times quite a challenge. I can guide people in learning techniques for photography of small or difficult-to-find subjects; or for shooting in natural settings where wielding a camera is physically challenging or awkward.

If you’d like me to help facilitate any of these activities with a group, or if you have other ideas for collaboration, please send me an email!
